About Us

Shelburne’s Museums by the Sea (SMBTS) is a complex of three unique museums operated by the Shelburne Historical Society:

  • The Shelburne County Museum, collecting and interpreting the deep and diverse history of Shelburne County.

  • The Ross-Thomson House & Store Museum, the 18th century home and business of West Indies merchants George & Robert Ross (part of the Nova Scotia Museum).

  • The Dory Shop Museum, both an interpretive site about these “workhorses of the sea” and an active boat-building workshop (part of the Nova Scotia Museum).

Our vision is to inspire curiosity in, and generate enthusiasm for, the history of Shelburne County and provide facilities and resources to learn about it.
